Local Area Attractions
Corlac house is in the heart of rural southwest France - a land of gastronomic delights, full of market towns, where foie gras, confit and truffles abound. Located in the Lot valley, and near the Dordogne river, the house is on the edge of Sarrazac village. This tiny rural community hosts a fine 11th century church and a hotel/ restaurant serving hearty Quercy food, popular with the locals. 1.5km uphill is Hopital St. Jean, founded by Raymond as a Relais des Templiers, serving pilgrims en route to Rocamadour and St. Jacque de Compostelle. Although the chateau here is in ruins, there is a good bakery where you can stock up on basic provisions such as fresh bread, croissants, milk, eggs and fruit.
Fifteen minutes away by car is the beautiful, medieval town of Martel. Here there are several quaint restaurants and shops, as well as a farmers market every Wednesday and Saturday. During the summer months there are weekly events held in the village square. The beautiful village of Turenne, with its picturesque hilltop castle, is a 5km drive or bike ride away. Other nearby towns include Souillac (25km) and Brive (30km), both larger centers with grocery stores, restaurants and shops.
Within half an hour’s drive from the house there are also several other scenic places to visit including Collonges-la-Rouge, one of France’s most beautiful villages, Autoire, Carennac, and Loubressac. Dinner at Pont De L’Ouysse, situated at La Cave, is a culinary experience not to be missed. And your visit to the region would not be complete without a trip to Rocamadour, Sarlat, and Montignac (site of the famous Lascaux caves) - the three premier sites of the region - which are all within one hour’s drive from Corlac house. As well, if it’s wine tasting you fancy, the fabulous wine regions of Cahors and Bordeaux are only about a two hours away.
Other activities in the area include cycling, white water rafting or kayaking on the Dordogne, horseback riding and golf.
